Solar Rebates Available in California
The state of California has long been known for it’s cutting edge outlook with regards to the environment. For evidence of this trend, look to the ongoing California Solar Initiative, or CSI for short. Rather than offering one program to promote the use of solar energy in the state, CSI is a group of programs, partnerships, and incentives designed to encourage conversion.
Affectionately known as the Million Solar Roofs campaign, the initiative offers a variety of California solar power rebates to residential houses as well as businesses, farms, schools, and government organizations that switch from conventional electricity to solar power. Because energy delivery is tied to individual utilities, the programs available vary from one service area to the next. Home and business owners should contact the CSI office or their local electric company to find out what rebates and programs are available in their area before making any changes to their property.
CSI runs through 2016 and provides incentives and rebates for new construction as well as converting existing buildings. The objective is to have three thousand megawatts of solar electricity created by the program’s end. There are also programs to encourage research and development of new solar technologies. An added benefit of the Initiative is the creation of thousands of new green jobs.
03.1.10South Padre Ships and Treasures
Well this now spring break haven was once just a small tranquil island of refuge for many people over hundreds of year. There are now plenty of great hotels along the South Padre Texas island for visitors to gather up and then get out and explore. There is either the fact or fiction rumor of some still buried treasures under sand dunes on this island. After a few exotic cocktails at Louie’s Backyard dining and cocktails you just might decide to go on a treasure hunt. Better take a few friends if you really get that bold. Otherwise, you could just stay at Louie’s and rave it up with all the other students blowing off some overwhelming textbook stress. They offer lots of live music and dance club fun.
But really, there is said to be over 10 million dollars worth of silver laying at the bottom of the ocean and in sand dunes on Padre Island. There was a passenger ship that got caught up in a bad storm in the Gulf of Mexico ended up crashing into the Padre Island. There were about 300 passengers that made it off the ship, however, they didn’t understand that their true doom resided on the island. Out of 300 people, only two would survive an attack by the cannibalistic Indians that lived on the island. These two survivors returned to a more civilized world and told their crazy story. There are centuries of stories about crazy things that happened on the island like the Singer family that buried there coins and jewelry on the island during the Civil War and when they came back for it the sanded area had changed so much, they couldn’t find any marker, so it was lost forever. Unless, of course, you find it. Or you could just go to Blackbeard’s Restaurant for more cocktails and feasting.

Increasing the Heat with a Fireplace Insert
In these economic times, and in these times of protecting the environment, it has become important to ensure that all of your appliances are operating as efficiently as possible. People wrap their water heaters with insulators, install water saving devices, and are investing in solar panels. One of the most cost effective ways to heat your house in the winter is by burning a fire, either in a wood burning fireplace or stove, or by fireplaces fueled with propane or natural gas.
Not only will the cut the cost of your monthly energy bill, the heat is more evenly dispersed through the house, and the atmosphere and ambiance takes on a note of charm and coziness. One way to increase the efficiency of your fireplace, wood burning or gas, is by the addition of a fireplace insert. This is a way to modify your fireplace, ensuring that you experience the warmest of heat from the fire, and is also a great way to update and redesign the look of your fireplace, and the look of the entire room.
Fireplaces are still typically constructed using traditional techniques of masonry. The ceramic and the bricks allow heat to escape, but by installing what is basically an iron kettle turned on its side into the fire place, you will substantially increase the heat retention. The structure prevents the heat from escaping, sending it directly into the room and throughout the entire house.
Many times people choose to install a small fan, with further increases the air circulation, and the even heat. These also will serve to cut down on the pollutants that are released into the atmosphere. Some of the inserts are designed to extend the original frame of the fireplace, creating a different, a new and an exciting look. Keep the heat in the house, and keep the bills leaning towards the lower end, and enjoy the addition of a fireplace insert.
