Building Business Integrity

Businesses, both large and small, are an important part of modern society; they provide employment for millions of workers, they invest in the community, and they play a large part in the global economy, for good or bad. As much as business provides and takes from society, there is one thing that is too often missing — integrity. Integrity is what keeps those with power in line and ensures that innocent people are not taken advantage of. An honest businessman may seem like an oxymoron; however, it is possible and the effects would benefit both those in business and the consumer.

To run a successful business you have to begin with trust . Regardless of the industry, trust is essential to building a strong customer base and continuing to stay in business. If customers don’t feel that they can trust you, or learn that they can’t, they won’t come back, and will probably pass the word along to their friends and neighbors. If you have a chain or private dealers throughout the country like Southwestern Company your reputation could effect them as well. Whether you have a small local business or a global business like Southwestern Company , it is important to build a solid reputation for being honest in your dealings as well as having a high quality product.

It is unfortunate that many business people feel that in order to make their way up the corporate ladder they have to be conniving and sneaky. But that is not true. Strength and assertion are important characteristics; however, when you are dependable, responsible, honest, and trustworthy to both your fellow employees and your clients, you will make it farther in the longer run and feel better about yourself in the end.
