How to Research Company Values

For many people, getting hired is great, but how people spend their money and what company they work for shows what values are supported. This can make a lot of people edgy about sending out resumes without consideration of these things. Finding information on a company can seem a little daunting, and the truly concerned may want to do more research than checking out the company’s LinkedIn account, although this can be a great place to start. This will give you a place to start for the next steps.

Finding the heads of the company on Linked in is rarely hard. Google searching news articles is a great place to get started, use the business name, but also search for just the names of the board of directors or the head of the company can give you a good idea of what they are spending their money on. You can also do a search and find the spending of the company. While most of it will be normal things like supplies, and paying employees, there will also be expenses that you may not recognize. Often spending on political campaigns in the past and charitable donations will probably be in these expenses that you don’t recognize.

If you aren’t worried about the ethical practices of the management of a company, you may want to at least look into the Better Business Bureau review of the company to find out if they are going to be a company you can stand behind in terms of service and product satisfaction. If a company treats clients badly, it is usually a sign that they will treat employees badly as well. Unfortunately this does not go in reverse. If all things check out, you may want to even take a few extra moments to search for new products that have recently come out. Knowing enough about a company to speak knowledgeably about them and their product line can be a big bonus when you apply for the job.
