City of Arts and Sciences Valencia

Valencia, Spain is an incredibly beautiful city and region. It has significant cultural landmarks and a great architectural heritage. The rich cultural scene attracts numerous tourists to its streets every year. And given all it has to offer, perhaps the biggest city landmark and major tourist attraction that entices all of the guests staying in the fabulous Valencia hotels is the incredible City of the Arts and the Sciences. This remarkable and state of the art facility is located at the far edge of the Turia riverbed and was finished in 1998.

The design for this city was created by Felix Candela and Santiago Calatrava and began its initial stages of development in 1996. And while it was considered to be finished and was officially inaugurated in 1998, the final component, El Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia was opened in October of 2005. This final addition to the already impressive complex serves as the home of the Valencia opera. There are many different aspects of this entertainment oriented city, and some are focused on education and preservation, while others are there for the quality entertainment they provide. Tourists and locals alike are repeat patrons of this multi-venue facility.

This amazing complex of facilities includes El Museu de les Ciencies Principe Felipe which is was built in the shape of a dinosaur and consists of an interactive science museum. L’Oceanografic constitutes the largest ocean oriented aquarium in all of Europe. It is an open air facility and was designed to resemble a water lily. L’Umbracle features within it the fabulous Walk of the Sculptures, which is an outdoor gallery of work by contemporary artists. Yoko Ono and Francesc Abbot are two of the artists whose work is featured. One of the most attractive buildings in this complex is L’Hemisferic, which includes an IMAX theatre and planetarium.
