Guides for Singapore

I plan to stay in Singapore for four day at the end of June and the beginning of July. The trip is really a foodie trip, I want to eat my way through Singapore. I made reservations at a Singapore hotel resort and will start there first. I’d like to eat all the specialties of Singapore, so before I went, I got on the Internet to see if anybody had any recommended guide books that I could buy. I receive several replies to my inquiry.

The one book that was recommended was the Makansutra guide . I needed to know where I could buy it and would it arrive in enough time before my trip, the same person responded that I should be able to find the Makansutra in any bookstore once I get to Singapore. They recommended I not purchase one online and have it shipped, they did that before their trip to Singapore and they thought it was total over kill. They didn’t remember just how much it cost, but the cover price is probably around $12 U.S.  They also recommended for me to get a good map or a guide book that has a good map of the city. Some of the place with which the Makansutra guides recommends is not easy to get to or not accessible by the subway, some might require a taxi, but most will be within walking distance. They told me that the Makansuta assumes I know where all the neighborhoods and main streets are in Singapore, so as a tourist, like me, which aren’t familiar with the city will most definitely need a map to help navigate and to also tell the taxi driver where to go.  They also told me to check out the forum on the Makansutra website. It’s a really good resource as well I can do a little prepping before my trip. This person whom I’ve never met, was extremely helpful with all the information they gave me. When I get back from my trip, I’ll have to thank them.
