Pollock was born in Cody, Wyoming, but moved to New York in 1929 to study at the Art Student’s League. He worked in many different styles until the late 40s, when he cracked open the barrier between modern art and the inner world of the artist, when he started to develop his drip technique that made him famous in his own lifetime. This made him the father figure in the Abstract Expressionist movement, which is characterized by non-figurative work that reflects the unconscious impulses of the artist, to capture the desire to paint in the moment that it strikes the heart. Pollock lived in New York until 1945, until he moved with his wife, painter Lee Krasner first to Long Island and then to East Hampton. His life was characterized by periods of great creative intensity and dark depressions brought on by heavy drinking. His works are considered to be masterpieces by most art literati, and his work continues to inspire generations of young artists looking to work outside of the box.

09.15.09Dayton Testimonials
Dayton, Ohio, we are in Dayton, Ohio. The sun is shining and the temperature is just a little over 70 degrees Fahrenheit. There was some sprinkles here and there earlier in the morning, but that cleared up right away. But, I need to mention that just about an hour ago, I’m driving down through downtown during the 5pm rush hour, and I’m stuck in the middle lane, when my hood of the rental car suddenly flips up and broke loose, causing it to slam into my windshield. Fortunately, we were travelling kind of in a caravan of people, friends driving in front of me and friends driving in back of me. So, I was able to pull the car over immediately and so did all the caravan and they helped me secure the hood back down and we were able to continue to through 5-o’clock traffic and make it to one of the Hotels Dayton has in the Downtown district .
I called up the car rental place and they said they could have a new rental for me by the next morning. But, what was really cool about talking to the car rental place, is I got to give a customer testimonial for the place on XM radio. My testimonial was recorded for airing on Sunday during the first hour of the local car talk show. I won’t be in Dayton to hear it, but I hoping I don’t sound like a doofus. I wasn’t expecting to give a testimonial and I had no idea what I could possibly say that they would consider a good testimonial. I mean, could I actually say that the hood of my rental car flew up and smashed into my windshield almost killing me, but I got a new rental the very next morning, so, wow, what a great car rental place. But, that’s exactly what I said and they thanked me and told me that if I missed the airing that I can go to there website and a recording will be there.
